The Ramapo Safety Initiative

Ramapo Safety Initiative: safer roads and smarter planning.
Together.

Ramapo is growing, bringing new opportunities, new development, and new challenges. The Ramapo Safety Initiative brings together trusted information, practical tools, proven processes, and community support in one place — helping residents, property owners, builders, businesses, and local officials make informed decisions and work together to shape a stronger Ramapo.

The organizing toolkit

Tools for every neighborhood in Ramapo.

This is a town-wide movement — but change is built street by street. We're building the toolkit that hands every neighborhood the information, the process, and the voice to shape what happens on their block. New tools are added as the initiative grows.

Why we exist

Ramapo is growing. Infrastructure should grow with it.

Our town continues to expand — new homes, new families, new traffic on the same aging streets. We welcome that growth. But the roads, sidewalks, intersections, and pedestrian infrastructure that keep everyone safe have not kept pace.

Safer streets should be the result of thoughtful planning — not years of repeated requests, petitions, or preventable tragedies. This initiative exists to make sure infrastructure is part of the plan from the start.

Our principles

Six principles that guide everything we do.

01

Safety First

Every decision measured against the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and children.

02

Smarter Planning

Infrastructure designed with foresight — not patched together after the fact.

03

Responsible Growth

We welcome development. It should be matched by the roads and services to support it.

04

Strong Infrastructure

Turning lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, and signals built to last.

05

Community Voice

Residents at the table when the decisions that shape our streets are made.

06

Accountability

Clear timelines, transparent priorities, and follow-through on promises.

How change happens

Informed residents. Organized voices. Lasting change.

Meaningful improvements happen when neighbors become informed, organized, and engaged. Respectful, constructive civic participation is what turns individual concerns into results that last.

01

Informed

Residents learn how planning decisions get made — and where their voice matters most.

02

Organized

Neighbors connect across communities to speak with one clear, constructive voice.

03

Engaged

Consistent, respectful participation with officials, agencies, and planning boards.
